  • Pelvic floor physical therapy is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on evaluating and treating conditions related to the muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues in the pelvic region. It involves gentle exercises, manual techniques, and education to address issues such as pelvic pain, incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and sexual dysfunction. The goal is to improve the strength, coordination, and flexibility of the pelvic floor muscles to enhance overall pelvic health and quality of life.

  • The first visit is the 90 minute evaluation- this is where we get to know you, your biggest difficulties, your biggest joys, and goals to make a rehabilitation plan specific to you! The visit starts with a conversation with the therapist about your history, what your biggest bothers are, your goals for physical therapy. Then we will look at your strength, mobility, balance, posture, how you move in typical tasks to assess for underlying causes and areas we can improve. If coming for pelvic floor physical therapy and you are agreeable, we may perform an external and internal pelvic muscle assessment for a better understanding of your pelvic floor specifically. Throughout the visit we educate you on our findings, things we can address in rehabilitation, and recommendations. The visit typically ends in a conversation where we answer any questions and the recommended plan to reach your goals!

  • No you do not need a referral! Each state in the USA has some level of direct access which allows you to see a PT without a referral. Vermont has full direct access. When seeing a cash-based PT you do not need a referral. Clinics that accept insurance often require a physician referral due to insurance requirements. Another way that you save time and money by seeing a PT at Empowered Physical Therapy.

  • The simple answer is No, but the real question to ask is: CAN YOU SOLVE MY PROBLEM? and after a conversation with us, we can certainly come up with the answer to this depending on what you are dealing with. This is the question you should be asking all providers you are reaching out to. Insurance coverage doesn’t matter if you can’t get the solution you need! But to explain more- Insurance puts restrictions on care that can be provided and can also sometimes slow down the process of getting you in to see a physical therapist ASAP. Similar to chiropractic care, massage therapy, and personal training this cash-based payment model of care is designed accordingly in order to deliver the highest level of care you deserve. Ultimately, it does save you money and time missed from work driving to a clinic. The value in our service is more than monetary. It is an investment in yourself.
